Backfit

Transforming a 1950s bank into an eye-catching and dynamic health services clinic.

We salvaged the 8,500 SF Bank of Montreal structure at the intersection of Cook and Cloverdale —floors, structural supports, T&G ceiling—and added new east/west additions. Varied exterior shading treatments (including corten steel and perforated corrugated metal screening) were used to generate an intimate interior space given the highly glazed façade. Curved brick façade and landscaping soften the building’s relationship to the street corner. Additional features include curved perimeter walls, a round skylight well and continuous curtain-wall transoms around the west addition.

The site is a highly visible hub location in the city, and the building has raised the bar for future high quality development in the area.

Creative Collaborators: Cascadia Architecture

We have worked with Story Construction on the completed BackFit Clinic in Saanich. It was truly a pleasure working with this dedicated and committed team of professionals. They delivered despite a tight schedule and I can highly recommend them.
